Make-up Artist’s Tips & Tricks: Bridal Beauty

Foundation and photography
“I recommend refraining from using a foundation that contains sunscreen on your wedding day. When you are photographed with a flash setting, the sunscreen in your foundation can ‘bounce’ back, therefore making your face appear lighter than the rest of your body.”RBR-2-liquid-foundation-milk-aquarelleJo’s tip: Liquid Foundation MILK AQUARELLE

Flawless complexion
“There are several, essential touch up items that I recommend keeping in a clutch: a lipstick or gloss, a sheer powder or blotting papers to help minimize excess shine, and Q-tips just in case you experience a slight shifting of your eyeliner around the inner corners of the eyes.“RBR-1-mattifying-primer“To create a flawless looking complexion that lasts for hours, prep skin with a mattifying primer to help fill in pores, minimize imperfections and to give your look an extra boost of longevity. Your liquid or powder make up will also blend smoothly if your skin is primed.”

Most beautifying eyeshadow colours
“If you are open to experimenting with dramatic looking eyes, keep the colors neutral and classic meaning no bright purple or green eyeshadow. Instead opt for shimmering taupes, earthy silvery plums, or shades of golds or bronze when it comes to eyeshadow colors. Create extra definition with a black or brown eyeliner and several coats of water-resistant, volumizing mascara to complete your look.”

Bright eyes
“Apply an eye brightening pencil to the inner, lower water line of the eyes in an off-white or light peachy pink beige tone. This will help the whites of the eyes to appear bright and fresh. Also, I recommend pairing this with an application of eye drops to further brighten and enhance the eyes.”

Glorious lashes
“Faux lashes can beautifully enhance eyes making them appear brighter and bigger. I recommend corner strip lashes for a gentle ‘winged’ effect or a feathery, fine full strip for natural looking volume. Always apply eyeliner when wearing faux lashes for a seamless and cohesive look.”

Product tip: Satin Eyeliner NOCTURNAL INK

A blush technique
“For beautiful yet soft flushed cheeks that will last, I recommend layering. Begin with a sheer application of a cream or gel blush over the ‘apples’ of the cheeks and follow with a light sweep of powder blush. This layering technique creates a long lasting pretty pop of color.”RBR-4-blush-wandJo’s tips: Blush Wand CHEEKS IN BLOOM in ‘Manet’ layered with the Original Skin Blush FOR LOVE OF ROSES in ‘Gracilis’

Shimmer strategy
“Achieve glowing skin with key placement of shimmer. I recommend applying a liquid, pearlescent highlighter to no more than a few areas on the face in order to refrain from looking oily. Apply to the high parts of the cheeks, bridge of the nose and even along the inner corners of the eyes for a doe-eyed effect that will make the eyes appear brighter in photographs.”
